BMG Birmingham & Manchester are sharing staff and resources to ensure Pattonair arrive on schedule at its new, purpose-designed £8 million warehouse in Derby. Pattonair is a logistics specialist in the aerospace sector and responsible for maintaining the accurate inventory and delivery of around 14 million high-value aero engine components. This tightly-woven move has no time for errors and no place for mistakes.
As part of the move to new premises, BMG is involved in the picking and processing of precision components. It uses Pattonair computer system to ensure the accurate input and output of stock which is monitored at both ends of the relocation process.
Phil Evans is project manager and aims to keep Pattonair on course by moving 7,500 batches to their correct locations during 12-hour shifts every night for two months. The £124,000 contract is a complex logistics operation, where speed and attention to detail are of paramount importance. It is another example of how BMG can share resources to meet the needs of large and specialised organisations.
